Saw the GOM UK clan and thought - I am both grumpy and old (well oldish)

So here goes:-

My WOT in game name is Captain_Bannon (from the book Team Yankee)
I'm 43 soon to be 44 I live in Herefordshire in the UK.
Langauges spoken - smattering of Serbo-croat (left over from my army days) and Mandinka, Local language from Gambia, West Africa - did some VSO work in a village for a while.

I have been playing WOT for about 10 months and enjoy roaring across the battlefield with a friend/s (if I have a premium account going at the time) but wanted to get a bigger group vibe - I like the cut of GOM UK's jib and feel I would "winge" as well as any other GOM. Oh found some other bits, 2 x Deskstar 160Gb HDD (IDE) and a 120 up for cost of postage if anybody needs one for a media centre etc.

Creative 5.1 speaker system some a bit tatty but all working again free + Postage.

Participated today in a battle on the "Siegfreid" Map, 3 of your guys were there, making a bold dash across the open ground hugging the cover of the pillboxes. I accompanied them.

Anyway, I read a lot, mainly around sf, fantasy, historical fiction, and some modern fiction.

Anyone interested in any of those genres, be interested to hear of particular authors or books you think are good - always on the lookout for new stuff to try

Steven Hunt - Jackelian series - really good Steampunk with a bit of alternate history vibe

SM Stirling - Islands in the Sea of Time series.. Peshawar Lancers - good alternate history.

Patrick McCormack - Last Companion series - great Arthurian fiction

Joe Abercrombie - Last Argument of Kings series - great, gritty fantasy

Scott Lynch - Lies of Locke Lamora - kind of Oceans 11 in a fantasy setting

Patrick Rothfuss - Name of the Wind - more great fantasy, with no elves or friggin dwarves

Richard Morgan - Altered Carbon series - far future, some futuristic warfare

Steven Pressfield - Gates of Fire & others. Great fiction set around battle of Thermopylae & Persian invasion of Greece. One of my all time favourite books.

Team based destruction derby will be for vehicles up to tier 4 (unless anyone wants it lower to make more accessible?).. this will hopefully give us access to quicker vehicles which could make it more interesting from the ramming damage point of view.

We'll divide those who turn up into 2 equal teams, and the winner will be the team that remains.

It was a close run thing with 'Arty Battleships' and ' Semi Historical Battle' for the vote, so I shall look at doing those as the next 2 events.

Why dont some of our friends who have never played create an account and come join in the fun....It's Free.
